CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

A minimum of two years experience in a senior kitchen role in a high volume trendy concept establishment of a similar standard and at least five years’ experience in total
In-depth skills and knowledge of all kitchen operations
Working with unions in New York at this level is preferred
Health & safety and food hygiene qualifications
Strong kitchen management skills, strong leadership, communication, organization and relationship skills
Possess skills to motivate and develop staff
Passion for hospitality and service
Excellent food knowledge
Possess artistic skills to plate food in an appetizing manner
Understanding of current trends in food & drink
Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Supernova at the Novotel New York Times Square is a new Food and Beverage concept that consists of a restaurant, lounge, bar and terrace.
This concept enjoys a truly iconic location overlooking Times Square and we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Sous Chef to help overseeing the operations, administration and management of the kitchen for this exciting outlet. The Sous Chef will assist with managing the kitchen operation for the restaurant, lounge, bar and terrace. The F&B operation also includes a variety of events spaces that will be key to the success of the concept. This is an amazing opportunity to establish a new and distinctive destination within the heart of New York.

Reporting directly to the Executive Chef, the successful candidate will assist in food planning and production processes, adhere to standard operating procedures for food quality and ensure the kitchen is compliant with the regulatory requirements for food handling, sanitation and cleanliness. Ensure the kitchen is properly staffed and supervise kitchen team members, guest satisfaction, and cost control, with the emphasis on sales and revenue generation.

Duties will include but are not restricted to:

Work with the Executive Chef to lead the operation of the existing kitchen team
Lead and inspire the team through training, coaching and mentoring
Assume the role of liaison between all dining room operations and culinary staff when needed
Ensure product delivery meets the highest quality expectations
Maintain and improve service standards
Work with the Executive Chef on food menu development
Assist plan, coordinate & implement special events and holiday functions
Attend/lead daily departmental meetings  
Assist with all required month-end inventories and reports
Help to maintain 100% accuracy in all audits and internal controls
Ensure compliance to Novotel’s human resources practices and policies around performance management, evaluation, recruitment, integration and health & safety
Assist Executive Chef with scheduling, ordering, hygiene and cost control
Help lead and coach the team towards achieving exceptional guest service and employee satisfaction results
